The migration scheme level would stay at 160,000 for the 2020-21 program year. While the quota remains the same, the quota distribution will be changed. The family stream is likely to expand from 47,732 to 77,300 places.

Global Talent, Employer-sponsored, investment programs and business innovation visas will be given more importance. Other visa applicants and partners in regional areas will also be given importance. This is done so to encourage migration towards regional areas of the country.

The government immigration solicitors will streamline and improve the business innovation operations and investment programs from 1 July 2021. The charges for visa application will also increase by 11.3% from the same date.

A very important change is the increase in requirements for business innovation visa holders to make sure the Program can attract migrants who have proven business skills. Business innovation visa holders will need to hold personal, and business assets of $1.25 that is an increase from $$800,000 and have a turnover of $750,000 that is an increase from $500,000 to prove their business awareness. A talent attraction and Global Business task force will be created. The need of the task force is to attract overseas businesses and gifted talents to Australia to help recover the economy post-COVID-19. It is built on an existing Global Talent Initiative and investment and Business program.

The Home Affairs Department has announced a new step for an extra temporary graduate visa with an increased one or two years of post-study rights for international students who:

  • Are a graduate from the regional campus of a registered university or an institution with higher education or postgraduate degree
  • They maintain ongoing residence in a regional area that holds their first subclass 485 Visa.

The second Temporary graduate visa will need to develop a residence in a regional area. The definition of regional Australia, for this reason, will be the same as skilled migration- all of Australia with the exclusion of Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

Students have to graduate from a regional institute and have to reside for at least two years in a regional area immediately before applying for another 485 visas to get the visa application. The second temporary graduate visa will also be available to post-study 485 visa holders who graduated from a regional institute.

It will also be available to those who have resided for two years in a regional area post applying for their second 485 visa. The application fee for the visa is $650 for the main applicant and $325 for a spouse/partner, and $165 for children below the age of 18. The applications can be made after 21 January 2021.

Partner Visas

Based on the budget, new changes to partner visa applications will be witnessed. One of the most important changes to the partner visa is English, and sponsors and applicants will be needed to pass the English language requirement.

The objective of the test is to promote social solidarity and economic participation. The language requirement will not be needed for subclass 300 prospective marriage visas, subclass 820 partners (provisional onshore) and subclass 309 partners (provisional offshore).
